The Mark Twain Cave Complex boasts America’s oldest and newest show caves!
Mark Twain Cave is Missouri’s first show cave. The first organized guided tour was in 1886. We proudly became a National Natural Landmark in 1972. We are located approximately one mile south of Hannibal on scenic Highway 79. In 2019, during our bicentennial year, we at long last discovered Samuel Clemens’s signature in the cave!

Your first stop will be at our Visitor’s Center where you will purchase your tickets, souvenirs, books and gather any information you may need and begin your tour. Prior to your tour, you’ll enjoy a 7 minute video covering cave formation and how the cave inspired the writings of Mark Twain. Our experienced guides will escort you on a 60 minute tour of the cave where the walkways are smooth and there are no steps. The cave is not wheelchair accessible due to its natural state.
Our cave stays a constant 52 degrees year round! A light jacket or sweater is recommended on the tours. We also suggest sensible walking shoes.

Cameron Cave is a 1 hour and 20 minute tour. Several people can carry lanterns as you will also be given a flashlight. You will experience the cave in its natural state just as it was discovered in 1925. To learn more about Cameron Cave click on Cameron Cave on the left margin.
Just steps away from our Visitor’s Center is Sticks, Stones and Bones where kids can pan in our sluice for semi-precious stones and dig for fossils. At Stick, Stones and Bones they can whitewash Tom’s fence! Next door is Cave Hollow West Winery where you’ll find over 20 Missouri wines all made from Missouri grapes.
